JUNIOR FAIR KING AND QUEENQualifications
- Each candidate must be a member of a 4-H Club, FCCLA, or FFA Chapter, Camp Fire Boys and Girls Club or Girl Scout Troop.
- Every King candidate must be between 15 and 19 years of age as of the day of the contest and must be an exhibitor in the Preble County Junior Fair Program. The Queen candidates must be between 16 and 19 years of age as of the day of the contest and must be an exhibitor in the Preble County Junior Fair Program.
- Each contestant may not be married, not have been married, or not have borne a child.
- The reigning Queen of the Preble County Junior Fair shall be eligible to compete in the Ohio Fairs’ Queen Contest the year she is selected. To participate in the Ohio Fairs’ Queen contest, she must meet the Ohio Fairs’ Queen competition qualifications and complete the entry and interview process.
- King, queen and/or court will be given a list of activities in which he and she will be required to participate throughout the fair as well as other county fairs and community events. If you will be unable to attend the fair to carry out duties and responsibilities, please reconsider your participation in this contest. (The only exception to this rule will be participation in The Ohio State Fair and prior notification to the King & Queen Advisory Committee will be required.) King, Queen and Court will be required to attend organizational meeting to assign responsibilities during the 2024 Preble County Junior Fair.
- All applicants for Preble County Junior Fair King & Queen must complete an application and essay and submit them by the deadline. All applicants must also make available the Advisor Evaluation to their advisor and the advisor must submit by the deadline. All applicants will MUST complete an IN PERSON personal interview with a panel of judges. Candidates MUST also be publicly quizzed IN PERSON at the evening contest. No phone interviews or videoed interviews will be permitted if you are not able to attend the Personal Interview and the Evening event you are not eligible to participate in the 2024 Royalty Contest. The judge’s decisions are final.
- Return application to the Preble County Extension Office, Eaton, OH 45320 by Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Contestants must also submit with their application, activities resume, essay and their 3 ½ x 2 ½ photo. Advisor Evaluations shall be submitted separately, but by the Wednesday, May 1, 2024, deadline. Personal Interviews will be held at the Preble County Fairgrounds in the Fairgrounds Office Building Boardroom on Saturday, July 13, 2024, an interview schedule will be sent at a later date for personal interview times.
- Each King and Queen candidate is encouraged to participate in a luncheon with the Judges at 12 noon on the day of the contest. The Luncheon will count as 10 points.
Judging
- Contestants will submit an activities resume and essay.
- Contestants will have an advisor complete and submit evaluation form.
- Contestants will be interviewed by a panel of judges on July 13, 2024, on the Preble County Fairgrounds in the Fairgrounds Office Building Boardroom, interview time to be sent to each contestant once all applications have been received.
- Business Casual dress (no jeans) will be acceptable for the interview. Formal dress is suggested for the evening program at 7 p.m. on the Preble Co. Fairgrounds in the Expo Expansion on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
- The King & Queen will be selected and crowned the same evening as the contest. First & Second Runners-Up will also be honored. If applicants are interested in running for Livestock Court, Horse Royalty or Nutrition, Textiles and Arts Court submit the Livestock/Horse/Nutrition, Textiles and Arts Court application at the same time and if not selected for Preble County Jr. Fair Court you will be considered for Livestock/Horse/NT&A Court.
- The King & Queen and Court are expected to maintain the dress and poise of the position during the entire time of the fair.
- Scoring will be done on the following basis:
- Activities Resume 25
- Advisor Evaluation 20
- Essay 15
- Lunchean with Judges 10
- Personal Interview 15
- Evening Contest 15
JUNIOR FAIR SPECIES AND PROJECT ROYALTYQualifications

- Candidates for Livestock Court, Horse Royalty, or Nutrition, Textiles & Arts Royalty can also run for Junior Fair King and Queen Court as well but will only be chosen for one. Both the King and Queen application and the Livestock Court, Horse Royalty, or Nutrition, Textiles & Arts Royalty application must be submitted.
- Can only represent one Court in any one year.
- Each contestant may not be married, not have been married, or not have borne a child.
- Livestock Court, Horse Royalty or Nutrition, Textiles & Arts Royalty will be given a list of activities in which she/he will be required to participate throughout the fair as well as other county fairs and community events.
