General Rules
- Each exhibitor may show a maximum of four market lambs. All market lambs will be shown as individuals.
- Breeding sheep exhibitors may have a maximum of two entries per Breeding Sheep class per breed.
- All sheep entered in a flock, must be entered by one exhibitor.
- All market lamb exhibits must be in possession by May 1.
- All breeding sheep must be in possession by June 1.
- DNA will be collected from all market lambs at the May weigh-in. See Junior Fair DNA collection policy for details.
Age, Identification and Weight
- Market lambs must weigh a minimum of 90 pounds to show in a market lamb class and sell in the Junior Fair Livestock Sale.
- All market lambs must be tagged with an RFID ear tag at the mandatory May weigh-in. Animals cannot be tagged at home. The EID tag must remain in the ear. The exhibitor or a representative must be present at the time of weigh-in. Four lambs may be weighed, tagged, and shown.
- All breeding sheep must have an RFID ear tag and be registered in their Breed’s Registry. Copy of proof of registration is to be presented to the Junior Fair Sheep Breeding sheep check-in.
- Non-registered sheep must have RFID ear tags and be shown in commercial sheep classes.
- According to the Federal Scrapie Eradication Program, ALL breeding sheep projects, and market ewe lambs must have an official USDA tag by the May weigh-in.
Health and Care
- Any Jr Fair market lambs that are not slick shorn of wool before entering the show ring will be eliminated from the show and will not sell in the Junior Fair Livestock Sale.
- No shearing in the show ring. No fitting in the show ring.
- Pens must be kept clean during fair week. Pens must be cleaned out on Friday by 10 pm. If the pen is not cleaned, a fine of $50 per pen will be enforced. The exhibitor’s sale check will not be released until the fine is paid.
- No Bottle Feeding or drenching of any kind will be allowed at the Fair. If bottle feeding or drenching is found, the exhibitor will be disqualified.
- NO SHEEP, AT ANY TIME, WILL WEAR A MUZZLE OR OTHER RESTRICTIVE DEVICE THAT PROHIBITS THE ANIMAL FROM FREELY EATING OR DRINKING. IF THE ANIMAL DOES, SAID ANIMAL WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM ALL JR. FAIR CLASSES.
General Show Organization
- All market lambs will be shown by weight, not breed.
- Market lambs will be shown in 4 Divisions: Division 1 (90-119 lbs); Division 2 (120-129 lbs); Division 3 (130-139 lbs); Division 4 (140 lbs and over). Classes will be determined in each division as needed.
- All breeding animals will be shown in the following breeds and combinations: Suffolk – Oxford; Dorset - All other breeds; Columbia – Hampshire; Southdown – Cheviot; Shropshire - Dorper. The breed combination which shows last will be the first to show the following year. Breeds will be added as a class if the entry requirement is met.

After the champion ram and champion ewe for each breed have been selected, all breed champion rams show for the supreme champion ram. Then all breeds of champion ewes show against each other for the supreme champion ewe. After the champion flock for each breed has been selected, all breed champion flocks show for the supreme champion flock.
